Welcome to YachtSmart. We are proud to tell you that 2010 is our 11th year in business. The market has been very challenging for all of us, so in order to not just survive, but to thrive we had to take some extraordinary steps. We had to think outside the box.
Understanding how sellers and buyers think is paramount to success in the yacht business. The market has turned upside down, to the point where we saw many sellers not just wanting to sell, but wanting "out". Over the past year, we have sold more boats at auction than we have through brokerage. Perhaps this is a sign of the times. Selling at auction is not a bad thing; in fact, it has many advantages. The most immediate is instant money for the seller. There is always a market for good boats that are in demand, on the brokerage side of our business. So when a seller approaches us, and wants to sell their boat, they can expect us to ask, “why do you want to sell?”. The answers that we get may not be so surprising. Rarely do we hear a seller say “to make money”. Most sellers have a problem they need cured. Perhaps they have health issues and need to sell, or money issues, or job issues, such as a transfer where they cannot take their boat. We feel that it is our job to help sellers cure their problems and recommend a marketing solution that can get the job done for them with the best possible outcome that will help their situation. You may have noticed that we have expanded. We are continuing to expand, and are planning to add more YachtSmart offices over the next 3 years in the 6 surrounding Eastern Seaboard states.
